20×16, Acrylic on Canvas, Log Drivers, From the late 1800s to the mid-1900s, the Fraser River was a vital transportation route for British Columbia’s booming forestry industry. Known as log driving, this practice involved floating cut timber downstream to coastal sawmills, using the river as a natural highway. Each spring, thousands of logs were set adrift, guided by skilled and daring workers called “log drivers.” They used poles and peaveys to manage massive log flows and break up dangerous jams. Featured in this painting is Quadrant Towings Quadrant Commander and deckhands Kevin & Karter.
